‘Pic Of The Crop’ Awards Announcement

Our ‘Pic of the Crop’ Photographic Competition culminated with the Awards Presentation announced Tuesday April 24 at The Centre.

The Judges Choice for Overall Winner was the entry ‘Cherub’s Feast‘ by 8yo Daniel Freidrich from Avenel, which scored 104 out of a possible 120.

The People’s Choice Winner was ‘The Canola Field at Sunset‘ by 16yo Liam Hindle from Strathmerton, which received 147 votes out of a possible 240.

Daniel and Liam were thrilled with their wins. Here they are posing for the camera.

The four age group category winners are:

  • 10 and under – Cherub’s Feast by Daniel Friedrich (Avenel)
My younger sister enjoying some local fruits
  • 11 – 13yo – Farm Fresh by Beatrix Clarke (Boweya)
Fresh eggs in an enamel bowl
  • 14-15yo – Organic Magic by Tammy Stone (Katunga)
    Our organic dairy farm
  • 16-18yo – Fig and Poppyseed Pancake by Georgia Nyman (Wangaratta)
This delectable vegan, sugar-free poppyseed pancake tower features the most plump, sweet, homegrown figs that were handpicked straight from my neighbour’s fig vine. Their blush of vibrant colour contrasts with a white quenelle of coconut yoghurt studded with black poppyseeds. This gorgeously delicious seasonal fruit makes the dish shine with its beauty and nutrients.

In addition to the above Awards, 10 Highly Commended Awards were handed out by the judges across the 4 age group categories.

Young people from 20 schools and the local government areas of Alpine, Benalla, Campaspe, Indigo, Moira, Strathbogie, Wangaratta and Wodonga entered the competition.

The Competition is now being Exhibited in the foyer at The Centre until the end of May so feel free to call in and view it. This project has been a partnership between The Centre for Continuing Education and Wangaratta Sustainability Network, supported by Gateway Health’s “Grow Your Idea”.

We especially wish to thank our Sponsors Olive Health, Cafe Derailleur and Marc Bongers from North East Photography.
