Volunteer Army Recruits needed!

Festival of jazz & blues

A volunteer army being formed ahead of this year’s Wangaratta Festival of Jazz is on the hunt for recruits.

This year we need more than 120 volunteers. We are looking for a very diverse set of skills from drivers, to ticket sellers, venue managers to festival ambassadors and more.

As with last year there are some great festival passes up for grabs for our volunteers. Shifts will rotate in 4 hour slots (you can do more than one in a row if you wish).

If you volunteer:

  • 8 hours, you will receive a Blues Weekend Pass
  • 9 – 12 hours will see you receive a Festival Day Pass
  • 13 hours or more – you will receive a FULL Weekend Festival Pass!!!

Volunteers work hard, so this year we are excited to introduce a VOLUNTEER CHILL OUT ZONE in Merriwa park. A great place to relax after your shift or during a break, soak up the atmosphere, meet other volunteers and enjoy a snack and a cool drink.

There will be a Volunteer Army Information Night, lock in the date of Thursday 25 October at Wangaratta Motor Group. The evening will commence at 6:00pm and will provide volunteers with information about the festival, the opportunity to catch up with last year’s volunteers and to meet new volunteers. RSVPs are encouraged but not essential.

We have faced some challenges this year which have put us a little bit behind schedule, but nothing that can’t be overcome with team effort.

So please, help us spread the word so we can build a bigger and stronger team for 2018.

Support Community Education

A group of community-based, not-for-profit, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and Learn Local providers have banded together to form the ‘Coalition for Community Education’ in the lead up to the State Election.

30 Neighbourhood House Registered Training Organisations stop providing accredited training since 2012, with almost 40 per cent of these being in Victoria’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged communities.

Community RTO providers like us deliver the same courses as TAFE but offer smaller classes and added support for students who need it. A number of community education providers are questioning why they are locked out of the free TAFE Priority Courses program when they have been included in other government initiatives alongside TAFE.
