Welcome to The Centre

Community Visitors Scheme

Community Visitors Scheme The Community Visitor Scheme (CVS) has been successfully run by The Centre, since 1992. The CVS is very proud to have over 100 amazing volunteers who visit across the Hume region. These visits are one-on-one, for an hour a fortnight. The benefits that a special friend can bring to the life of a person who experiences loneliness are endless. Community Visitors fill an important role in the community by ensuring a socially isolated person feels cared for and connected. Group visits involve a volunteer visiting two or more residents, as a small group, at the one time. This program helps encourage residents living in Aged Care facilities to build their own new friendships. Would you like to be one of our special volunteers? Would you like to bring a smile to someone who is lonely and needing company? Please call us for a friendly chat to find out more information and how you can become involved.

Once again we are offering scholarships on a range of courses in 2019. The Scholarships will be available to successful candidates enrolling in a selected eligible qualification with The Centre in 2018 for our learners. Scholarships of $400 each are available to contribute to paying tuition fees in the following Eligible Qualifications. To find out how to apply visit https://www.thecentre.vic.edu.au/scholarships

Reconnecting people to life-changing learning

The Centre is about to commence delivery of its second Skills First Reconnect program funded by the Victorian Government’s, Department of Education and Training. “With our two Reconnect programs, The Centre is receiving funding of over $1 million to provide one-on-one support to help people with significant barriers to accessing formal education programs to eventually enrol in a course that will change their lives” said Felicity Williams, CEO of The Centre for Continuing Education. “Reconnect funding has provided the backbone funding we needed to establish our Learner Engagement Team,” said Ms Williams. “The establishment of this team has been a watershed for The Centre, enabling us to provide much needed wrap around support for our learners, many of whom have multiple challenges, including mental health issues, family dysfunction, alcohol and drug dependence, unemployment and low educational attainment.” Read the full story on our website.
