Seymour Office Launch

Seymour Launch

Earlier this year we opened our new offices in Seymour. On the 17th of July we held our official launch and were honoured to have the Hon. Jaclyn Symes cut the ribbon to officially open our building.

Taungurung Man Shane Monk performed the Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony. This ceremony has cleansed the space to allow The Centre to empower individuals to unlock their potential through participation, connections, pathways and learning in Northern Victoria. We are excited to welcome new students to our facility in semester 2!

Neighbourhood house spotlight:

Quercus Beechworth

Quercus BeechworthQuercus Beechworth, previously known as the Beechworth Neighbourhood Centre, has had a long and proud history in the Beechworth community since 1985. Over that time it has grown and developed, connecting those who have participated in classes, generously volunteered their time or attended events. Quercus Beechworth has always been a place where locals come together to share, learn, connect, support and offer assistance.

Being responsive to Beechworth community interests has led to a focus on Community Food, Community Learning, Community Enterprise, Community Events and Community Support.

The Centre has had a long standing relationship with Quercus Beechworth, having delivered a variety of courses over the year at the central Beechworth venue.

Located on the corner of Church and Ford Streets in two historic churches, Quercus Beechworth is perfectly placed and easily accessible for residents and visitors.

Quercus Beechworth is operated by friendly and experienced staff and volunteers.

Quercus Beechworth is passionately committed to providing opportunities for all those in Beechworth to come together to share, learn, connect & support.
Are you a Beechworth local, keen to upskill?

Keep your eyes peeled over coming months as we release new courses to be run out of Quercus Beechworth.

Sport North East

All Abilities Soccer Carnival – Thursday 27th June

The All Abilities Soccer Carnival is coming to Benalla this June after the success of the event in Wangaratta last year.

Adult and School-aged teams will be travelling from across the North East region for an inclusive fun-filled day of small-sided soccer matches.

Building upon the success of previous years, Sport North East and Valley Sport have continued their partnership to provide an opportunity for members of our community to engage in sport, regardless of their abilities and circumstance.

All Abilities Soccer allows individuals to develop an understanding of fairness and equality, respect and dignity within a supportive sport environment. The team environment that sport provides teaches individuals how to strive and succeed; how to cope with success and disappointment; and connects individuals together with a common goal.

With the venue hosts of Benalla Rovers Football Club and the referees provided by Galen Catholic College, the All Abilities Soccer Carnival has developed into a highly collaborative community-building event.

WINTER SCHOOL HOLIDAY SPORTING FUN

Primary school aged children in Wangaratta, Wodonga, Rutherglen, Myrtleford and Corryong are invited to try their hand at a new sport these school holidays.

The School Holiday Program, which is supported through VicHealth’s Regional Sport Program, aims to provide opportunities for boys and girls aged 5-12 years to be active, in addition to introducing them to a variety of sport opportunities at local clubs.

Sport North East has partnered with local Gymnastics, Badminton, Pickleball, Basketball, Squash and Racquetball clubs within the region to offer a variety of free come-and-try sessions.

The 90-minute sessions will be delivered by club volunteers and are targeted towards children who are new to the sport.

Students are encouraged to take the opportunity to find out more about our local clubs, with the opportunity to sign up as a club member at the end of the session.

All programs are free to attend with all equipment supplied.
To find out more about the programs on offer or to register your child’s interest, please visit http://www.sportnortheast.com.au/shp
