The centre provides a range of Capacity Building Programs which align with the primary focus of the NDIS.  All our Capacity Building Programs are underpinned with core Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) to encourage learning in a highly familiar environment with the student.

Capacity Building Programs for People with a disabilityOur programs have a variety of entry and exit points suitable to a range of abilities.  Leaners develop Employability Skills in a Supportive Learning Environment.

Cooking for life skills – all year

This is a program designed to help people with a disability or low literacy to build and gain employability skills, such as:

  • Communicating and personally interacting with others (internal and externally in the community)
  • Reading recipes, labels and menus
  • Planning, budgeting and shopping
  • Food safety, hygiene, preparation, cooking and service
  • Cleaning, inventory, storage of equipment, tools and stock

The course will incorporate adult reading and writing, customer service and hospitality skills. These skills will transfer to employability in the areas of a kitchen hand, waitress or sandwich hand plus providing lifelong skills.

This course will be 5 hours a week for 46 weeks. This is to ensure the course allows for repetition, practice and mastery of each task catering for individual skill and knowledge growth.

Horticulture – all year

This course will provide learners with an introduction to the skills and knowledge required to undertake a job and start a career in the horticulture industry. This course is based on a horticultural project, which is to build, plant and maintain a kitchen garden. Learners will have the opportunity to learn about soil health, plant identification and care, companion planting, crop rotation, fertiliser and pesticide application. Learners will be involved in planning the project and undertaking project tasks, such as:

  • developing a budget
  • procurement
  • design of the garden
  • carrying out garden construction
  • ongoing maintenance

This course will be 5 hours a week for 46 weeks. This is to ensure the course allows for repetition, practice and mastery of each task catering for individual skill and knowledge growth.

Living Skills – Health and Job skills – Semester 1, 2017

Enjoy a gentle introduction to the 2 year program to learn Life and living skills including health, safety & good and bad relationships. Be prepared for the next stage of transition. Learn Literacy and Numeracy skills for Future Education through fun activities while exploring social development. This course includes excursions out into the community and guest Speakers on interesting information about the community.

Students will explore all aspects of how to write the right resume for the right job. We have some great handy tips that will make your resume stand out from the others. Students will learn the art of witting an individual cover letter, selection criteria and gain strong interviewing techniques. Students will finish the course with a completed CV. This pre-accredited course has been aligned to any job role or position in any industry sector you may be applying for.

This course will be 5 hours a week for 13 weeks.

Living Skills – Transport and Literacy through Art – Semester 1, 2017

Enjoy a gentle introduction to the 2 year program to learn Life and living skills, to be prepared for the next stage of transition. Learn Literacy and Numeracy skills for Future Education through fun activities while exploring social development skills. This course includes excursion out into the community and Guest Speakers on interesting information about the community. Students will be required to follow directions and carry out tasks as requested.

Students will explore all aspects of the arts in this fun and exciting course to finish off this semester. They will engage in hands on activities introducing the art world and all of its options. This course will show the learner a way of expressing themselves through art and craft activities all while getting an introduction to further study in the Arts.

This course will be 5 hours a week for 13weeks.

Living Skills – Employment and Independent Living – Semester 2, 2017

Gain all the basic skills required to prepare to work in all areas of employment and find out your future options whether it be paid employment, further training, voluntary work or recreational/leisure. This course will help you identify barriers to employment develop interpersonal skills and identify what support if any you need to reach your employment goals.

This course will be 5 hours a week for 13weeks.

Living Skills – Customer Service and Retail – Semester 2, 2017

Learn customer service skills to work in a variety of workplaces including retail. Students will develop customer service skills while working on a real world retail project. Students will use computers to research and identify areas they want to work on and find information that will help them coordinate the project with support.

This course will be 5 hours a week for 13 weeks.

Industry Tasters – Semester 1, 2018

This course will provide you with Industry Tasters and work experience in a variety of fields.  You will visit real worksites to experience real work environments.

A major project for year 2 is to plan, prepare and carry out a market stall.

This course will be 5 hours a week for 13 weeks.
