Learn the skills to volunteer or get a job in Horticulture.

This course will provide learners with an introduction to the skills and knowledge required to undertake a job and start a career in the horticulture industry. This course is based on a horticultural project, which is to build, plant and maintain a kitchen garden. Learners will have the opportunity to learn about soil health, plant identification and care, companion planting, crop rotation, fertiliser and pesticide application.

Kitchen Garden Horticulture at The CentreLearners will be involved in planning the project and undertaking project tasks, such as developing a budget, procurement, design of the garden, carrying outl garden construction and ongoing maitenance.

This course also includes ‘discovering your employability skills’. Participants will discover their own strengths and be able to articulate their skills and experience in order to make choices about the type of employment they feel confident in seeking in order to get back into a secure employment situation.

The horticultural component of the course will provide learners with basic skills that could lead to further education and/or employment in agriculture or horticulture, including viticulture, parks and gardens, or plant nursery.

You will learn employment skills which will help you write your resume, apply for a job, handle a job interview and get feedback and ways to improve your chances to get the job.
